Many quotes claim to be your key to success. But most don’t have the power to change our lives.
Don’t get me wrong. People like Helen Keller, Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstein had some good insight into how to live.
However, the most life-changing words to live by come from the Bible. Real transformation and change come from God. He is the one who always has wise words
Do you want power in your life? Power to …
- Think the right thoughts?
- Have the right attitudes?
- Control your emotions?
- Improve your relationships?
- Make the right choices?
Then come along today and learn powerful words and inspirational quotes from the greatest positive thinker ever.
Words to live by about how we think
There are numerous books on the market about the power found in positive thinking. Most notable is the book written by Norman Vincent Peale in 1952. It has long been a standard in positive thinking circles.
The problem with most of these books is that they only focus on us and not on God. Most are “self-help” books. Here are some of the recommendations:
- Believe in yourself to succeed in everything you do
- Build your determination
- Develop the power to reach your goals
- Break your worry habit to have a relaxed life
- Take control of your circumstances
- Be kind to yourself
Should we be kind to ourselves? Absolutely.
Should we break the worry habit? Of course.
Should our relationships be improved? Yes.
But we must not be so arrogant to think we can accomplish these goals without God’s help.
Instead of believing in ourselves, we need to believe in God and His power to accomplish the impossible.
Instead of trying to make it in life through our sheer determination, we need to accept the fact that determination alone is not enough
Instead of trying to control everything and everybody, we need to let go of the things we have no control over.
So what is wrong with positive thinking? Absolutely nothing.
It is the total focus on ourselves and our personal lives that is the problem.
You might be surprised to know that God was the first to come up with the power of positive thinking.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 ESV
Talk about positive thinking. There is not one negative thought in this list of things to think about. Furthermore, it comes with a promise. In verse none it tells us that the result will be inner peace.
So if we want success, we can’t expect to do it in the way that our culture tells us.
“Self-help” is not enough.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Romans 12:2 ESV
What we think about affects everything else: our beliefs, our emotions, our attitudes, our relationships, and our choices.
Words to live by about our attitudes & emotions
God has good plans and good things for us. But we must have the right attitude in order to enjoy them. Making a change in this area of our lives can be hard work but worth it because it affects our emotions and how we feel.
Here are some short quotes from the Bible about our attitudes:
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.” Philippians 2:5-6 NLT
Jesus did not feel the need to prove to others His importance or position.
“Do all things without grumbling or arguing.” Philippians 2:14 NLT
How much conflict would we avoid if we did this one thing?
And these quotes are about our feelings.
About fear –
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you (God).” Psalm 56:3 NLT (explanation added)
About anger –
“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” Ephesians 4:26 NIV
There will be times when we are angry. But we should not act upon that rage without a lot of thought. Dont, react. Instead, take a deep breath and talk to God about whether you really need to respond.
About worry –
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6 NLT
Is anxiety and worry a problem for you? Do you pray about situations as much as you worry about them?
One game changer to this problem is gratitude. Things may be uncertain or out of our control, but we still have much to thank God for.
Words to live by about our relationships
God created us with a need for other human beings. This is the most important thing following our relationship with God.
Yes, people get on our nerves sometimes. We all approach life in different ways. But that does not mean that together we can’t accomplish great things for God.
If you are an introvert, you still need people. Don’t neglect this.
So what are some good relationship quotes from the Bible?
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
This is not telling us that others ARE more important, but rather to treat them as if they are. So we need to respect them in every way possible.
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up …” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV
The Bible is full of many other quotes but these two alone will pave the way for good relationships.
Words to live by about our daily choices
God’s ways are not always easy or in our comfort zone, but they make for a simple life. Following Jesus is not complicated. In fact, it is a beautiful thing. Our everyday life becomes about the little things and the simple choices.
So what does God say about how we should live each day?
“Choose this day whom you will serve … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 ESV
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
“What would Jesus do?” This quote from Charles Sheldon is still a good motto for today. Every choice we make can be sifted through this question. God is either the first place in our lives or He is not.
The most life-changing words to live by
So let me ask again. Do you want power in your life? Power to …
- Think the right thoughts?
- Have the right attitudes?
- Control your emotions?
- Improve your relationships?
- Make the right choices?
It all begins with our relationship with God.
Our world is broken. Everywhere there are broken relationships, broken hearts, and broken promises to name a few.
The most life-changing words to live by come from Jesus Christ. He said,
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 ESV
Another way of saying it might be, “The world’s values will steal our joy, kill our contentment, and destroy us spiritually. Jesus has a better way. He wants to give us a life full of joy that overflows to others.”
That my friends is success.
