A Lesson In Trust From A Kitty’s Perspective

Sharing is caring!

Rehoming an adult cat is not always easy. Since she is almost 3 years old, this move has been traumatic for her. All the new sights and sounds are scary. As much as I try to tell her, “Don’t be afraid,” she doesn’t understand.

The Bible tells us 365 times not to be afraid. But just like cats, we don’t often understand. We see the unfamiliar and think of “danger”.

Carefully and gradually we have introduced her to new things, allowing her to work through her fears, reduce her anxiety, and learn to trust us. We keep reminding ourselves that she is just a kitty.

God too works with us little by little. He remembers that we are human with many fears.

“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.” Psalm 103:13-14 ESV

Each day we make a little progress with the kitty. But it wasn’t until I noticed a very important behavior that made all the difference. You see, when I would lay down on my bed, things were totally different.

When my eyes came down to the kitty’s level, trust began to build. I was no longer a threat.

I think this is just a snapshot of what God did for us. When Jesus entered into human flesh and came down to the human level, we began to realize that God can be trusted.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 ESV

Jesus took a posture of humility, becoming human so that we could see His love for us first-hand. Even though He already understood everything we go through, we could not comprehend it.

But when Jesus was here on earth and experienced temptation, hunger, fatigue, grief, and physical pain we finally understood. He is for us, not against us. We can trust Him.

If you don’t know Jesus, you probably have questions. The people at Chat About Jesus have answers. You can text, call, or chat with them online any time of the day or night.

  1. So tender and poignant, beautifully written. It’s amazing what our Father’s many different creatures can show us of His love and compassion for us, and how much He wants our trust.

    • Awe, thanks for that comment. As it says in Romans 1- “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.” I love the way God speaks to us through His creation.
