Best Bible Verses About Appreciation And Gratitude

Most people think of expressing gratitude in November. It is an appropriate response for Thanksgiving day. But Scripture teaches a lifestyle of appreciation – living with an attitude of gratitude in all circumstances and at all times.

Bible verses about appreciation and gratitude address everyday life situations and relationships with God and others.

Bible verses about appreciation and gratitude towards God

All gratitude revolves around the steadfast love of God, sending Christ Jesus to rescue us from certain spiritual demise.

It is the will of God that no one be separated from Him. His perfect gift of salvation and forgiveness of sin is where a thankful heart begins. Here is what the Word of God says about our relationship with Him.

“Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15 ESV

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,  not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV

Not only is our Salvation a gift from God, but anything good we experience in life is ultimately from Him.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17 ESV

“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Ephesians 5:20 ESV

“Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” Psalm 107:8-9 ESV

Our heavenly Father deserves spiritual songs of praise, even if it isn’t melodious. Even a joyful “noise” to our great king is what God wants to hear, sometimes called the fruit of lips. We were created to be connected to Almighty God through a relationship with Christ Jesus, the rock of our salvation.

Bible verses about appreciation and gratitude towards others

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul began his letters with appreciation and gratitude for his many friends in the churches He started.

“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 1:4 ESV

“I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers.” Philemon 1:4 ESV

“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you.” Colossians 1:3 ESV

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,” Philippians 1:3 ESV

As you can see, appreciation and gratitude were not an occasional attitude but his daily practice. Imagine what it must have been like to open his letter and read, “I am thankful for you. I pray for you.”

In another place Paul wrote:

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up ….” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV

So how do we do the same for those God has placed in our lives? Here are some things that you can say.

  • Thank you for your support even on my darkest days.
  • Thank you for always being there for me.
  • I appreciate your ability to connect with others.
  • Your servant’s heart always blesses me.
  • Every time I think of you I pray for you.
  • I am so glad we are friends.

You may already have some things you like to say to encourage friends. If so share them in the comments.

How is your day going? It is easy to feel grateful when life is going smoothly. If we pay attention we are aware of God’s blessings in so many aspects of life.

But when life goes awry, when difficult times strike, we tend to forget about all those gifts from our heavenly Father. Life’s storms often cause us to question God’s goodness, or even if He cares or understands our difficulties.

These are the times when Bible verses about appreciation and gratitude are so important.

We need a collection of Scriptures to help us through those moments. Repeating them may be a sacrifice of praise, but the Lord God Almighty receives it with all compassion. He remembers that we are human and blesses those who take the time to still recognize that God is worthy of praise even in difficulties.

Because of this human tendency, we need to practice daily a life of appreciation and gratitude.

The power of gratitude helps us get through the rough spots of life, trusting God instead of questioning His goodness. But just how do you go about doing this?

  • Before getting out of bed, thank God for life, His indescribable gift of salvation, and His unfailing love.
  • As you begin your day, ask God to help you see all His good gifts throughout your day
  • If you go to a job, thank God for your health that allows you to be employed and for the skills that He so graciously created you with.
  • When you eat lunch or dinner, thank God for providing for your physical needs.
  • When you go grocery shopping, thank God for the many choices you have in fruits, vegetables, and other food staples.
  • When you see friends, thank the Lord for a support system.
  • When you go for an outing, thank God for the ways that we can enjoy life in our spare time.
  • When you know that you could have spoken to others nicer, thank God that He convicts of sin and forgives and gives you another chance.
  • When you are home in the evening, thank God for a place to live.
  • As you get ready for bed, thank God for another day to live for Him and a place to sleep.

These are just a few ways that you can develop a heart of gratitude. It takes practice but is well worth it.

Bible verses about appreciation and gratitude in our prayers

We know we should pray, but sometimes we are at a loss as to what to say. Here is a tip. You will never go wrong giving grateful praise to our great God. King David in the Old Testament gave us an example.

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!  Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!  Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100 ESV

Coming into His presence and entering His gates is the act of praying. What a privilege to be able to come boldly to God in prayer!

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 ESV
